Connecticut Bar Mitzvah photography, New Haven Lawn Club events, Mishkan Israel photography

Aden accomplished a huge rite of passage last month, leading a Bar Mitzvah service for many family and friends at Mishkan Israel.  His family helped him party in style that evening at the beautiful New Haven Lawn Club, where guests were treated to an every-detail-remembered celebration: party games and kid cocktails, a photo booth, a donut bar, dancing for all ages, an elegant dinner service and dessert, and of course a huge hora, with every last guest involved and having fun.  They even had Slinkies to remind guests to “spring ahead” that evening.  Congratulations, Aden!

Is this little bundle for real?  She is only one week old and already totally enamored with her siblings.  We could see her orienting toward them whenever they spoke, and she actually smiled when big brother kissed her on the head (the proof is in the photo!)–this was not a sleep smile!  She’s totally surrounded by love, and I think she knows it :).  I love this beautiful family and feel so lucky to have been asked to capture a little slice of these first days!  Thanks guys!!!

Travel photography, Hawaii photography

My fourth and final Hawaii post!  I finally sorted through all 1800 photos I took ;-).  Below are photos from our few days in Wailea, the “resort” coast of Maui, where it’s almost always sunny, the waves at the beaches are fun to jump in, and sea turtles abound!  Highlights were a whale watching trip where we got lucky enough to see whales repeatedly breaching, an outrigger canoe ride where we helped paddle and we learned about Maui’s history from a local, and a luau–yes, it was a bit commercial-feeling, but a really great show!

Travel photography, Hawaii, Paia and the north coast of Maui

I am determined to finish my Hawaii blog posts before the one year anniversary of our trip! 🙂  I have a serious photo backlog problem when it comes to my own personal photos!  We started our trip last March on the Big Island, which I posted about here and here.  We then flew to Maui for the 2nd week of our trip, and started the first half of the week on the north coast, with a home base in Paia.  Paia is a surfer town, with lovely little restaurants and shops and a really laid-back, yet refined, attitude.  It was a bit drizzly during our time there and the surf was so high it wasn’t safe to swim, but that really added to the atmosphere of this wilder side of the island.  It’s the home of some serious surfing competitions and given the waves we saw, we’re not surprised.  We spent one day driving the road to Hana, a 60 mile trip that takes all day because it is just one hairpin turn after another (the boys were counting at first but stopped at about 156…we probably drove over 400 of them!).  It’s so fun to stop along the way to explore a rugged patch of coastline or admire a waterfall or two.  At the end of the ride, before heading back, we spent some time running away from monster waves at a beach, and visiting the section of Haleakala National Park with the Seven Sacred Pools (seven waterfalls, each with its own bit of pool, eventually leading to the open ocean).  I loved this part of Maui.  Its wilderness and laid-back charm definitely spoke to me :).

Connecticut family photography, newborn photography in New Haven County, baby photos

This little lady was only 12 days old for these photos but SO alert and responsive to her parents!  At one point her dad was making faces at her and she was doing them right back, until one of his faces made her smile (it absolutely seemed like a real smile to me, purely interactive, even though I know it’s too soon for babies to smile!).  She has beautiful little lips and expressive eyes and two totally in love, adoring parents.  The session was a joy.  Thanks for inviting me into your home to capture these fleeting moments, guys!
